Promotion of players from the young generation

Zug United is currently still a development club, as soon as a player reaches a certain skill level, the big clubs come and try to sign these players up for their club.
One of my most important tasks as Head Coach of Zug United is to train the team and the players.
We also try to get away from our role as a teaching club and play better floorball ourselves.
It is important to offer young players a perspective and to bring good reinforcements to the team. If everything works out, success comes, it is easier to keep your own players in the club.
But how do you support young players properly? This is a difficult question, because every player is an individual personality, with an individual environment, attitude, support and goals.
I think it is important as head coach of a top league team to give enough attention to your own youth teams.
This can be the U21 team, as well as the U17.

We recently invited a very talented U17 junior player to our training. For personal reasons, I will refrain from mentioning the name.
What was I thinking when I made this invitation? Of course the player couldn’t have the same level as my current squad. This was already clear before this decision was made.
Nevertheless, I think it is important that we send such signals from the first team. The player was of course very surprised about the selection and was extremely happy. The player was also very nervous during the warmup.
But I took the necessary time and talked to the player before, during and after the training.
It was important to me that the player knows that they deserve to get to this squad from us because of their good performances in their own team. I also pointed out that if the performance in the own team remains consistently good and the player continues to play humbly and in a team-oriented manner, this will not be the last time to train in the first team at the age of 15/16.

In this training the player could experience for the first time what it is like to play for “the big ones” and how such a team and the trainings work.

Another effect of this action was that the teammates of this player also noticed that they are seen by the first team and that this door is basically open.
